A preliminary review of urban design considerations in transport planning. Special Report No. 1.

Abstract

This guide has been produced to increase the awareness amongst transport planners and engineers of the contributions they can make towards improving the urban environment. It is intended for widespread use including developing world cities. It is intended to serve as a source of ideas, and to demonstrate that techniques do already exist that can help cities cope with increasing car ownership and use. The destruction of the quality of life in the great cities of the world by road traffic is not an inevitable consequence of economic growth.
