Abstract

The objective of this document is to provide an overview of the current state of knowledge with regard to the impacts of modern energy on micro-enterprise and to discuss the nature and extent of linkages that have been found to exist between modern energy and micro-enterprise activity. The preparation of this review has been restricted in terms of time and it does not, therefore, purport to be a systematic review of the literature on this subject. Rather, it presents some of the trends in thinking about energy and enterprise issues, together with some illustrative examples from the field of international development in order to serve the purposes of the DFID project \"Micro-Enterprises and Modern Energy\".
