FOI-00040442 | Fully Met | The most recent data published is for 2023. We are now nearly half way through 2025. When will 2024 data be available? Is there one mass update, or is it done gradually? How does the DFT decide where to site its count points? One would assume an intention to monitor approaches to all major junctions of key main roads? How do automatic counters work? Could ANPR cameras, or data from existing ones, be used to inform traffic volume data measurements? Google has a wealth of traffic data. Does the DFT access this data to inform DFT understanding of traffic volume and movements, for example when considering where to promote improvements to the network, or indeed merely producing traffic data? The junction of the A13 with the A123 and A1153 at Ripple Road / Lodge Avenue is a major traffic intersection, and a major source of traffic congestion and delay. There is a count point on the A13 east of the junction. There is also a count point on the A13 west of the junction, however this is also west of the Movers Lane junction. On the A123, there is a count point some way to the west, but this will not include significant traffic coming past Upney station. On the A1153, there a count point some way to the northeast, but this will not include significant traffic coming down Lodge Avenue from the north. It seems there is a vacuity of data into this key junction at the Ripple Road / Lodge Avenue roundabout. The Movers Lane junction a short distance to the west on the A13 is another major traffic intersection. Notably there is a large industrial area to the south, and Movers Lane provides right turn access to Barking from the A13 west, and to the A13 west from Barking. There are counters on many minor roads nearby, but none on Movers Lane, nor on River Road. This appears to be another vacuity of data into this second key junction. Does the DFT have a policy for identifying and adding count points where such deficiencies are identified – is so what is it – if not why not? | 18-Jun-25 |
