How much it costs
There is no charge.
Exemptions
Registration is not required when care is:
- for less than 2 hours each day
- for 5 or fewer days per year
- provided in the child’s own home
- regulated under different legislation, for example a residential family centre service
Overnight care at a hotel, guest house or other similar establishment for a child staying there is exempt from registration. This exemption only applies when both of the following apply:
- care is provided between 6pm and 2am the following day
- the person providing care does so for no more than 2 clients at the same time
Schools are exempt when any care provided is incidental to providing education.
Registration is not required if the care is incidental to tuition or coaching in the following activities:
- sport
- performing arts
- arts and crafts
- school study or homework support
- religious or cultural study
These exclusions when care is incidental to tuition or coaching do not apply when either of the following apply:
- the children are under the age of 5 years and attend for more than 4 hours a day
- the person offers coaching or tuition in more than 2 of the activities
