Check if a website can legally sell medicines online in Northern Ireland

You can search the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) register to check if a website is allowed to sell medicines in Northern Ireland.

You can search the register by the business:

  • name
  • company number
  • website address

All websites that sell medicines to the public in Northern Ireland must display the Distance Selling Logo.

You can no longer search the MHRA register to check websites selling medicines in England, Wales and Scotland. You can check if an online pharmacy is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council instead.

Before you start

You can report a website to the MHRA if:

  • you think it’s doing something illegal
  • the EU common logo is not displayed
  • it’s selling prescription medicines but it’s not a pharmacy

MHRA will investigate your report.

If you’re in England, Wales or Scotland, you should report any concerns about a supplier to the General Pharmaceutical Council.
