Disabled access

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the British High Commission, Dar es Salaam are keen to ensure that their buildings and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public.

Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. In these situations we will endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people.

To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access at this High Commission. We hope this information is helpful.

General physical access:

  • entrances - clear and unobstructed
  • steps and staircases - none of the stairs have clear step edging or anti slip edging
  • ramps - permanent ramp gives access to visa section, no others installed
  • lifts - lifts give access to wheelchair users and access all floors except high level of visa section
  • toilets - two disabled toilets are installed, located on the 3rd floor, and visa sections
  • parking - spaces available at owners’ risk, however, no transfer space for wheelchairs is included
  • floor coverings - floor coverings are a mixture of carpet and hard surfaces, all are true and level
