Register a farm vehicle

Your farm vehicle must have the right approval to be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

To register and tax a new or used tractor you’ll need to send your registration documents and proof of approval to DVLA Swansea, SA99 1BE.

Registration documents

To register a new tractor for the first time, you’ll need to prove it has either:

You can prove this by showing the Certificate of Conformity (CoC).

You should be given the CoC when you buy the tractor. If you do not have it, you can get a copy from the manufacturer.

A CoC is only valid if the tractor has been assembled by someone acting under control of the manufacturer.

Tractors that do not need approval

You do not need approval for some types of specialist tractors, for example a vineyard tractor or track-laying tractor.

If you think your tractor does not need approval, check with the manufacturer.

You do not need approval if you are registering a used tractor that is over 10 years old.
