UK utterly condemns fighting in Bentiu, South Sudan
We call on all parties to the conflict to abide by their commitments to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.
A British Embassy spokesperson issued the following statement:
The United Kingdom utterly condemns ongoing fighting between government and opposition forces in and around Bentiu, South Sudan. Such fighting is unacceptable and must stop.
We call on all parties to the conflict to abide by their commitments to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, signed on 23 January, and its Implementation Matrix, signed on 10 August, and engage constructively in talks led by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Those that choose violence, commit human rights abuses and violations and block progress in the talks will be held accountable.
