British Ambassador Hugo Shorter called on Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

Following his meeting Ambassador Shorter said:

I had a good meeting with PM Salam, who is doing a difficult job in difficult times.

We agreed on the importance of electing a President for Lebanon as soon as possible. The UK’s position is that it is the responsibility of Lebanese leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue so that Parliament can elect a President.

I condemned the attack on BLOM Bank, and we agreed on the importance of protecting Lebanon’s banking sector.

Creating growth and economic opportunities forms a key part of the international community’s engagement in Lebanon, and we as the UK are supporting the Lebanese economy through job creation, vocational training and infrastructure projects.

The UK remains committed to supporting Lebanon’s stability, security and prosperity.
