UK communities in solidarity with global relief efforts for the Philippines
Communities all over the United Kingdom are joining global efforts to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).
Communities around the United Kingdom, including the quarter of a million Filipinos living and working there, are joining global efforts to help those affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
Helping bring all these together is the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which has launched an appeal to raise funds for Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) relief efforts. The DEC is a coalition of 14 leading UK aid charities to deliver a collective approach in raising money to reach those in need quickly.
This appeal is the latest by the DEC, which have run more than 60 appeals, helping to save millions of lives and rebuild communities devastated by disasters. Appeals are reserved for major emergencies whose scale makes it difficult to address by the usual coping mechanisms within affected countries and helps DEC members to respond quickly and effectively. Funding to the appeal will be spent on vital supplies and emergency assistance.
The British Government, has said it will match the first £5 million donated by members of British the public to the Philippines appeal adding to existing support already committed by the UK. The Government funding will go directly to the Disasters Emergency Appeal under and be allocated by it.
