On Anti-Corruption Day, UK Ambassador Nick Bridge discusses the OECD’s vital contribution to the fight against corruption.
One week after the publication of the OECD’s groundbreaking report on international bribery - which indicated that, in 53% of the cases examined, bribes were made or authorised by corporate managers (and in 12% of them by the chief executive) - Nick underlines how corrosive corruption can be in undermining growth and development. He also highlights the importance of the OECD’s Anti-Bribery Convention which establishes legally binding standards to criminalise bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions, and provides for a host of measures that make this effective.
