This year’s Third Annual Consular Meeting organised by the British Consulate in Santiago focused on the topic “Sexual Violence in Chile and the Consular Procedure.” On the occasion, we were joined by the British Ambassador Fiona Clouder and the Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General, Mal Green. At the event held in late March there were representatives from Chilean government agencies and organisations such as the Carabineros Police Force, the National Institute of Human Rights, the National Women’s Service, the National Forensics Service, the Investigations Police, the National Juvenile Service, Dr. Manuel Báez and CMC Abogados law firm. Members of staff of the British Embassy in Santiago, the five British Honorary Consuls, and consular officers from the embassies of Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States were also present at this meeting.

A wide range of topics were covered during the day which helped consular staff understand how each agency works and what their procedures are like. There was also the opportunity to engage in an open dialogue where everyone was able to ask questions and exchange experiences. A special thanks to everyone who presented and participated in the debates following the presentations. We hope to have as great as an outreach next year.
