The British Council and the Chilean Ministry of Education launched the Seminar entitled ‘Summer Town’ for English Teachers that took place in Santiago between January 6th-17th. This training programme in partnership with English Opens Doors and the U.S. State Department, reached over 1,000 English teachers in 12 Chilean cities.

About 25 people participated at the launch event including authorities from the Chilean Ministry of Education and the members of the ‘English Opens Doors’ programme, an initiative aimed at improving the teaching and learning of the English language in the country’s state schools. Also present at the event were 12 international trainers that included 6 teachers from the United States and 6 professionals commissioned by the British Council.

The British Council has collaborated in previous years on this initiative, but never to this extent. With the Council’s increased participation, this strengthened partnership has meant that the numbers of teachers more than doubled from last year. The focus of this year was ICT for English teachers.
