Changes in notarial and documentary services on 1 April in Greece
As of 1 April Consular offices in Greece will no longer provide these services that can be performed by local alternative providers
With effect from 1 April 2014, Consular offices in Greece will no longer provide notarial and documentary services that can be performed by local alternative providers such as Greek Notary Publics, Greek lawyers or Citizens Bureau (KEP) offices. This includes a number of frequently needed services such as witnessing signatures, administering oaths and certifying photocopies of documents. We will continue to offer a limited number of notarial services but these will be centralised at the Consular Section of the British Embassy in Athens; British Vice Consulates in other areas of Greece will no longer provide this function. Some of these centralised services can be provided by post; for others, customers will need to attend the British Embassy in person, this includes the provision of marriage documentation services for British nationals who are resident in Greece and wish to marry here. Please note that if you have UK documents which are required for use outside the UK, you will need to have them notarised in the UK and then legalised by the FCO Legalisation Office.
These changes are intended to streamline our consular operation, give British nationals in Greece a number of easily accessible alternatives and help free up our resources so we can focus on providing assistance to customers who need our help the most.
