Largest ever UK smart cities business delegation visits Kochi

More than 20 of the UK’s most innovative companies will visit Kochi from 11 to 12 November.

This is the first delegation of its kind in Kochi. The business delegation will be showcasing their high tech smart city solutions at the India-UK TECH Summit in New Delhi. The delegation will then travel to Kochi where they will meet representatives from government and industry to explore partnership opportunities. The mission will build on existing UK support to Kochi, including for their smart city bid and work on urban master-planning in Aluva.

British Deputy High Commissioner Chennai, Bharat Joshi said:

Theresa May’s visit to India – her first visit outside Europe since she became Prime Minister - reflects India’s importance as a strategic partner. The UK invests more in India than the US and Japan combined, and India is the third largest investor into the UK. We have already supported the Kochi smart cities project and I’m excited to be bringing more than 20 first-rate UK companies with expertise in transport infrastructure, built environment, energy, water, waste management and sanitation, technology infrastructure and securities and cyber solutions to see for themselves the opportunities this extraordinary city offers.

Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Department for International Trade, Tammy Sandhu Chennai said:

This is the first and largest business delegation of its kind to Kerala. The companies visiting Kochi will pitch the latest in cutting-edge smart city solutions to both government and industry. The UK’s smart cities offer is vast, from the development of autonomous vehicles, intelligent transport systems, data analytics and smart energy. We look forward to exploring the many partnership opportunities that Kochi smart city has to offer.

The UK is country partner at this year’s TECH Summit, India’s premier science and technology showcase in New Delhi from 7-9 November. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the partnership between the two countries during his visit to the UK in November 2015. The TECH Summit has brought together leading star speakers, British businesses, science and technology experts to India to show best of what UK has to offer.

UK companies are showcasing a variety of innovative solutions at the TECH Summit. Exhibits include smart meters, a self-driving vehicle, solar-powered grids and advanced technology mobile devices.
