In Memoriam: Brigadier Stephen Saunders former Defence Attaché in Greece

3-minute silence at the British Embassy in Athens

in memoriam

British Ambassador John Kittmer said:

We are honouring today the memory of Brigadier Stephen Saunders, former Defence Attaché of this Embassy. Brigadier Saunders was murdered on the streets of Athens on this day fifteen years ago by terrorists. He was a father, a husband, church warden at St Peter’s; a much loved and respected man.

After intensive collaboration between the forces of law and order in Greece, the UK and other countries, his murderers were identified, apprehended, tried and duly sentenced in a court of law. We believe they should serve out their sentences in prison.

The British state and the British people never forget those who have fallen in their service.
