On 11 October, Mr Marshall Elliot, the Head of Development at DFID Tanzania signed a grant agreement in support of the Ifakara Health Institute. The grant, amounts to £4.5 million (11.5 billion shillings) over three years. The purpose of the grant is to support successful implementation of IHI’s new Strategic Plan 2013-14. Signing on behalf of IHI, the Chief Executive Director, Dr Salim Abdulla, expressed his appreciation to DFID. Noting that this support carries forward previous support to IHI from DFID, Dr Abdulla said, “We are excited to be embarking on a new Strategic Plan over the next five years. We believe that this support from DFID will enable us to accelerate implementation. We look forward to bringing on board additional partners for financial support and for research collaboration.” Marshall Elliot commended IHI for its research achievements to date, noting that the visit to the Institute this week by His Excellency the President was testament to the value of IHI’s research achievements to date and its ambitions for the future.
