Twelve Clipper yachts docked at the V&A Waterfront on the third leg of their round the world journey.
On Saturday 26 October 2013, the GREAT Britain Clipper yacht reached the Cape Town Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in first place on the third leg of the of seventeen leg Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
The race comprises twelve boats representing both places and companies. All competitors are amateur crews embarking on a ‘once in a life time experience.’ Those sailing include a rotation of young people sponsored by Sapinda Investment Holding. Known as the ‘most popular on board’ the Sapinda Rainbow Crew, aged 18 - 23, from previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa, will participate in eight of the legs.
As part of the Cape Town stop-over, UK Trade and Investment and the British Consulate General invited marine industry leaders to a reception to highlight Great British technology, design, manufacturing and creativity. Despite the rain the event was very well attended with yacht crew, British and South African business people gathering under the Adventure is GREAT banner to do business.
