Once again the United Kingdom is reflecting its continuing commitment to its relationship with the UAE by sending a strong UK delegation to the Dubai Air Show.

The UK Government delegation is led by Mr Philip Dunne, the Minister of State for Defence Procurement. He will be accompanied by Lieutenant General Tom Beckett, the UK’s Defence Senior Adviser Middle East; Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford, Chief of the Air Staff; Air Vice Marshal Gary Waterfall, Air Officer Commanding Number 1 Group RAF and Mr Stephen Phipson, Head of the UK Trade and Investment Defence and Security Organisation. The Royal Air Force is providing a Typhoon aircraft for the display programme and a Hawk T2 aircraft on the static line.

Around 100 UK companies in the defence, civil and security sectors, many returning after a successful Dubai 2013, are exhibiting a range of cutting edge technologies and are hoping to identify industrial and joint venture partnerships.

Minister of State for Defence Procurement Philip Dunne said:

The UK and UAE continue to enjoy a close relationship as strategic partners, and more widely, the UK remains committed to promoting security and stability in the Gulf region. What happens here not only has a direct impact on the national security of the Gulf States and their citizens, but also the United Kingdom and the safety of our people, which is why it is vital that we work with close allies like the UAE to tackle regional threats such as ISIL

Our strong relationship with the UAE is about more than security - it is about prosperity too. This is an important area to do business and UK companies will continue to partner with the UAE for many years to come.

Stephen Phipson, Head UKTI DSO:

I want to encourage UK and Emirati companies to network and identify areas of joint industrial and technological cooperation. The UK has a significant range of world class products across the air, land, maritime and security sectors and UK industry is keen to establish enduring and mutually beneficial partnerships with the very capable industrial and technological base in the UAE.
