Ambassador Philip Malone and the embassy team competed in petanque and a traditional British and Lao sports day, as well as English language games around sport and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

The event saw a special unveiling of the Lao flag that was carried by the Lao Olympic team into the Olympic stadium in London last year. LEOT won the flag in an auction and Ambassador Malone was proud to join village and centre leaders in installing the flag permanently in the library of the centre.

Ambassador Philip Malone commented:

I hope that the flag will stand as a symbol of the link between Laos and the London Games and as a reminder of the benefits of being physically active as we have seen here this weekend.

In addition to the English and sport games, the day saw the Ambassador award LEOT students with certificates of completion of their English courses during the year. Ambassador Philip Malone joined officials to award 80 students with certificates of completion and 4 students with honours awards. Special prizes of London 2012 original merchandise were also given to winners of the sports competitions.

The event kicked off the British Embassy Vientiane’s season of sport and the Embassy’s first official visit to Luang Prabang.
