In cooperation with the Egyptian Government, the British Embassy in Cairo assisted in organising the second special session of the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery in Sharm El Sheikh between June 11 and 13 as part of the UK G8 presidency. Several senior Egyptian officials attended the session. In his speech on behalf of the Egyptian Government, Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah called for more coordination between countries seeking to regain assets allegedly stolen or frozen overseas.

The British Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo, Stephen Hickey, restated the British commitment to cooperate with the Egyptian authorities on asset recovery: “the UK is committed to doing everything possible to track down and recover the proceeds of crime hidden overseas”. He added that the UK is “working closely with Egypt and G8 countries to make sure that this happens as swiftly as possible.”
