UK trade in numbers

A pocketbook providing a snapshot of the UK’s trade position, summarising trade statistics produced by ONS, HMRC, DIT and others.

This pocketbook contains the latest trade and investment statistics, as of date of publication. It draws on a number of sources from the UK, including the Office for National Statistics (ONS), HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the Department for International Trade (DIT), and international databases. These figures are subject to change, as certain sources are revised on a monthly basis.

Trade statistics inform how we meet the challenges of trade policy and promotion in the UK. The definitive source of UK trade statistics, and the UK balance of payments, is produced by the ONS and is known as the Pink Book. The majority of visuals in the pocketbook are based on the data from the Pink Book, which offers a geographical breakdown and illustrates the UK’s bilateral trade on top exports and imports for goods and services.

In addition, the pocketbook depicts the UK’s bilateral trade surpluses and deficits, trade in value added, foreign direct investment and regional trade statistics.
