Improvements to the measurement of owner occupiers’ housing costs and private housing rental prices

Following recent work by the Office for National Statistics and the Valuation Office Agency, this article describes improvements implemented to the rental equivalence measure of owner occupiers’ housing costs in CPIH. Consistent data sources and methods are also used in the construction of the Index of Private Housing Rental Prices. The impact of these improvements on both series is presented within this article.
