Background

The Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) was created within the Cabinet Office in 2019. The OVA works across government, with veterans and with service providers to meet the ambition of making the UK the best place in the world to be a veteran by 2028.

In November 2022, the OVA published its Data and Research Framework (pdf, 2.9 MB) setting out a vision for the OVA to become a centre of excellence for government data on veterans. In a first step to achieving this we are publishing the first version of a Veterans’ Data Dashboard which we intend to update regularly.

Content

The dashboard provides a snapshot to showcase to the public, to veterans and to service providers what information we have about the veteran community and what we know about the use of dedicated veterans’ services, provided by the government.

The data is currently structured and presented into the following policy themes:

  • Key stats from the England and Wales Census 2021
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Employment, Education and Skills
  • Making a Home in Civilian Society

Development and Maintenance

The dashboard will be updated on a quarterly basis where possible in order to provide the most accurate and up to date picture.

The OVA will continue engaging with the wider sector, and with government departments to include new content into the dashboard and expand its scope over time both within the existing areas, and to also cover the following policy areas:

  • Community and Relationships
  • Finance and Debt
  • Veterans and the Law

The dashboard replaces the Veteran’s factsheet which the OVA published in 2021.
