As of 1 June 2022, the United States (US) has replaced Section 232 tariffs on certain UK exports of steel and aluminium with ‘tariff-rate quotas’ (TRQs).
If you are a UK exporter of steel and aluminium, you will be able to export tariff-free to the US up to the following specified volumes.
Exporting steel from the UK to the US
On steel, you will be able to export up to 500,000 metric tonnes per year duty-free. This includes products exported to the US via the EU. For more details, see the full steel TRQ on the US Customs and Borders website.
Exporting aluminium from the UK to the US
On aluminium, you will be able to export up to 21,600 metric tonnes per year duty-free. For more details, see the full aluminium TRQ on the US Customs and Borders website.
