ARTES Programme: Advanced Technology Proposal form guidance

Do not send a scan or other format of the document. If you send this form to another address, or directly to a member of staff, your proposal may not be considered.

1. Summary

1.1 Project Title

Include the name you have given the proposal. If it is in response to an ESA competition, include the formal competition title.

1.2 ESA Reference Number

Provide the relevant invitation to tender ESA reference number or workplan activity reference listed on ESA’s website, usually starting ‘AO’.

1.3 Project Summary

Provide a short summary of what you want to do, how you will achieve it and any industrial partners or customers.

1.4 Funding request (€)

Provide the amount you are requesting from the UK National Delegate. If you anticipate future phases, include the total additional funding required, if known.

2. Organisation Information

2.1 Lead Applicant

Provide details for the lead applicant (i.e. ‘prime’) of this project.

2.2 Organisation name and address

Provide the name of the legal entity and the registered company address.

2.3 Contact details

Provide a contact telephone number and email address.

2.4 Company Summary

Provide a short overview of the company (maximum 50 words).

2.5 Organisation type and registration number

Provide the company, charity or other registration number applying for funding. If you do not have a registration number, please contact the team at the details provided.

Provide a timeline for the duration of this project. Please include your anticipated start and completion dates.

3.4 ESA Funding Line

3.5 Risks

Set out the top five risks and your mitigation strategy for each. We are interested in your full and frank assessment of the challenges you face, and how you will address them.

Provide details on any previous relationship with UKSA, or other relevant public bodies, and details of any funding applications you have made to them. Provide details on your company’s current and previous involvement in relevant ESA programmes. If these have concluded, provide details of any relevant ROI from the programme.

4. Business Case – Commercial Opportunities

Provide a summary of the commercial opportunities you are pursuing (maximum 200 words).

4.2 What will be the commercial application of any eventual product?

For example, how will the technology be applied, or will this technology enable other technologies or applications?

4.3 Do you already have the support of any potential customers or strategic partners?

Provide details on any relevant discussions or agreements that you have had, or plan on having, with any current or potential customers.

4.4 Do you anticipate any spin off developments from this project?

If applicable, provide a brief summary of any ‘spin off’ project(s) you are anticipating.

4.5 Where will the resulting intellectual property be held, and how will it be developed further? Set out your approach to intellectual property.

5. Business Case – Market Assessment (optional)

5.1 Who are your prospective customers?

Provide a list of any potential customers, detailing their interest in this project.

5.2 What do you expect their needs to be in respect of this project (approx. 200 words)?

Provide details of any relevant discussions or market research you have conducted regarding this project.

5.3 Market Breakdown

Complete the table with the relevant information on your target market.

5.4 Competition Analysis

Provide a detailed analysis of your current and future competition.

5.5 Other barriers

If applicable, provide details on any other potential barriers. For example, use of spectrum, regulatory, legal, environmental, etc.

6. Business Case – Innovation

6.1 Summarise the aims and objectives of this technology (approx. 200 words).

Provide a summary of your aims and objectives for the end-product of this technology.

6.2 What is innovative about this project (approx. 200 words)?

Explain whether this is a new technology or whether the project will enable innovation elsewhere, for example, in either technological or service delivery.
