Details

This chapter and its annex set out commitments between the UK and Indian governments on how technical regulations on product characteristics should be developed. These commitments help make trade easier, fairer and more transparent.

This chapter helps to remove or reduce technical barriers to trade for goods, while upholding the safety and quality of products on the UK market.

The chapter includes a joint commitment to promote the use of international standards. This encourages the adoption of international standards that the UK helped develop, making exporting simpler through aligning rules.

The agreement is not yet in force. Both the UK and India are required to complete their respective domestic procedures for the agreement to come into effect. Once ratified by both countries, businesses will be able to trade under its terms.
