Trade union advisory group: membership

The trade union advisory group was established in October 2020. Its aim is to meet the requirements of the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) external engagement on trade policy.

1. Role

The trade union advisory group provides a key forum for facilitating exchanges with trade unions representing the interests of different sectors on specific policy issues. The group will contribute to the ongoing work of DBT in formulating a trade policy that works for all areas and people of the United Kingdom.

2. Structure

The advisory group is chaired by Minister Jayawardena.

DBT will act as the Secretariat for the groups.

3. Membership

The group involves relevant experts representing a broad cross-section of vital UK trade unions.

Members have been selected on the basis that they are able to provide the relevant understanding, insight and expertise necessary.

The members are:

  • Frances O’Grady - General Secretary - Trades Union Congress (TUC)
  • Christina McAnea - General Secretary - UNISON
  • Mark Brown - General Secretary - Affinity
  • Tony Burke - Assistant General Secretary - Unite the Union
  • Mike Clancy - General Secretary - Prospect
  • Paul Fleming - General Secretary - Equity
  • Paddy Lillis - General Secretary - Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW)
  • Royston Rickhuss - General Secretary - Community
  • Dr David Wrigley - Deputy Chair - British Medical Association (BMA)
