Trade union advisory group meeting summary: 22 February 2021

Minister Jayawardena welcomed all to the second trade union advisory group meeting. He reaffirmed his commitment to the group and dedication to ensuring that British workers’ interests were represented in the UK’s trade policy.

Members were updated on:

  • ongoing work for the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)
  • trade negotiations with the USA
  • the imminent Board of Trade publication on international trade and UK jobs

The group was of the view that Britain’s high labour standards should be upheld as we agree new trade deals and affirmed their commitment to support the department in this endeavour.
