Trade export client survey (ECS)

Results of the Department for International Trade's (DIT) ECS to measure the performance and quality of its export promotion services.



The research looks at:

  • customer experiences with DIT’s service offer including overall satisfaction
  • businesses’ reported impact against key indicators and measures

Survey process

The survey is completed by an independent market research company that specialises in business surveys.

The survey is based on independent telephone interviews with a sample of users of DIT’s services.


The export client survey takes place 3 months after a business has received the support. The sample size is approximately 6,000 businesses per year.

Reported impact survey (RIS)

The RIS is a follow up survey which takes place 12 months after the interaction. The sample size is approximately 2,500.

All of our client survey interviews are voluntary. Clients are guaranteed anonymity and this aims to minimise potential bias in the way they respond to questions.
