Key highlights for 2024/25 include:

hazard reduction: meeting our target of filling 18 boxes of waste from the Pile Fuel Cladding Silo and placing it into more secure and modern containers.

decommissioning: successfully removing the first contaminated glovebox from one of the site’s oldest and most challenging labs.

security of energy supply: continuing to receive and store used nuclear fuel from the Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor fleet, operated by EDF Energy, enabling them to continue to generate electricity.

national security: providing safe and secure storage for the country’s stockpile of special nuclear material and exceeding our ‘stretch’ target for transfers of material to a purpose-built storage facility.

meeting international commitments: completing the second of three planned shipments of high-level waste to Germany; contributing to the UK’s strategy to return high-level waste and fulfilling overseas contracts and delivering on government policy.
