Details

The Respite Rooms pilot programme, funded by DLUHC (£5.7 million), provided short stay accommodation facilities with intensive support to help vulnerable rough sleepers affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence to get off the street and out of danger.

From October 2021 to March 2023, the pilot programme operated across 12 local authorities.

DLUHC commissioned this evaluation to assess what constituted good delivery of the Respite Rooms services, to understand the impact of the programme, and, in particular, to identify what is most effective in helping such vulnerable individuals to access the support they need to make choices and decisions around next steps for recovery.

The evaluation found that the programme was highly effective in supporting 792 vulnerable rough sleepers affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.
