Details

This Net Zero Technology Outlook is a futures exercise that sets out a ‘best estimate’ of the technology mix needed in key emitting sectors to reach net zero by 2050, and identifies the research, development and demonstration (RD&D) needed to get there.

The Outlook provides a strategic overview to help orient decision-making across government and the research community in support of the Clean Energy Superpower Mission.

Developed through expert interviews, peer review, and literature synthesis, the report assesses technology readiness and certainty across 5 key emitting sectors:

  • industry
  • power
  • transport
  • heat and buildings
  • agriculture/land use/waste.

It identifies RD&D needs in 3 categories:

  • technology development
  • decision support
  • delivery

The Outlook is not a statement of government policy.
