The National Probation Service launched the NPS Health and Social Care Strategy 2019-2022 in August 2019

The three core commitments of the strategy are:

  • to improve the health and wellbeing of people under probation supervision, and contribute to reducing health inequalities within the criminal justice system
  • to reduce reoffending by addressing health and social care related drivers of offending behaviour to reduce victims of crime
  • to support the development of robust pathways into services for people under probation supervision, including improving continuity of care between the custodial and community setting

The strategy will deliver these objectives through action plans covering seven priority areas: Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Suicide Prevention, Social Care, Physical Health, The Personality Disorder Pathway and Learning Disabilities and Challenges (LDC) and Autism.

Each division, eventually regions under the new model, will take forward this agenda through their health lead structures by developing and implementing their own action plans.
