The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) is recognised around the world as a centre for excellence in leadership development. We’ve built on our success in England to develop professional leadership programmes overseas for:

• education ministries
• universities
• school networks
• the private sector

We will work with you to achieve the most effective and sustainable approach for your circumstances.

Leadership development programmes

All of our international programmes can take place in your country or in the UK, for organisations that are able to secure groups of at least 15 participants.

All our international programmes include:

• access to a wide range of interactive online resources and activities
• expert trainers
• placement with an outstanding principal (depending on the programme)
• one on one coaching
• unique access to school leaders in England from outstanding schools
• opportunities to carry out and access educational research

Our programmes feature a range of learning styles, including:

• face to face training
• distance learning
• online study

This maximises their impact and minimises time spent away from the classroom.

Bespoke services

We can design leadership development programmes or training events tailored to your specific needs. They can be delivered in England or in the location of your choice.

Our programmes cover a range of leadership themes, including:

• leading teaching and learning
• developing your leadership potential

• leading change and continuous improvement
• leadership and governance

These programmes can vary from a short 2 day course to a more extensive certified programme, including:

• instructor-led workshops
• access to extensive online resources

You’ll also have the chance to:

• discuss the latest international research and educational challenges from across the globe
• meet with outstanding school leaders and internationally recognised educational experts

Consultancy

We offer professional expertise covering all aspects of leadership in:

• schools
• education departments
• early years settings, including kindergartens

We will address your long term needs and develop a plan to maximise impact across the school system in your country.

Our aim is to provide you with the tools and skills you need to sustain change locally – whether you are looking to fill a skills gap, address a specific leadership challenge or develop new policy.

Licensed programmes

We know that many people want the flexibility to deliver training to their own school leaders. With this in mind, some of our leadership programmes are available to deliver under license in other countries.

We offer ongoing support to licensed providers. This includes a comprehensive “train the trainer” programme that allows you to develop the knowledge and skills of locally based trainers. We also provide all the resources needed to deliver the training successfully, and ensure that the results are sustainable and effective.

Examples of our work

United Arab Emirates

We’re working with Pearson Education to deliver a training programme for 700 school principals across the entire United Arab Emirates. First we identified their specific leadership development needs. We then led the writing of programme content, customised to the needs of the United Arab Emirates and aligned with international best practice.

India, UK-India Education and Research Initiative

We’re working with the UK-India Education Research Initiative and local organisations to develop:

• school leadership standards
• programme content
• an online portal
• research on school leadership in India

The project aims to increase leadership capacity in schools, and support the Indian government in its mission to create a centre for excellence for school leadership.

Queensland, Australia, The Middle Leadership Program

We worked with Queensland Education Leadership Institute to develop a programme for middle leaders. The 9 month programme includes a blend of face-to-face and online activity. So far it has been delivered to over 350 middle leaders.

China residential

We’ve run 2 intensive 8 day programmes in China for over 80 outstanding leaders from the UK. The programmes aimed to improve the quality of maths and science teaching in England. Participants investigated approaches used in Chinese schools with top international PISA rankings in these subjects. These research programmes led to the creation of the Shanghai Teacher Exchange Programme.

Lithuania

We have designed a successful EU-funded development programme for the National School Assessment Agency in Lithuania, involving:

• the development of a competency programme
• a train the trainers model
• a performance management framework

National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) in the Middle East

We’re working in partnership with British Schools in the Middle East and the Federation of British International Schools in Asia to run our flagship programme for leaders from British international schools.

This programme:

• enables expatriate teachers to keep up with what is happening in the UK
• offers the chance to acquire this prestigious qualification while working overseas
• is still a major consideration for people recruiting headteachers in the UK

Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago National Commission for UNESCO contracted us for a 1 week leadership development event for 40 school principals. The event will be offered to more school principals over the next 4 years.

India, Save the Children

In summer 2013 we delivered a bespoke programme to empower a group of state leaders from India. The programme provided an opportunity to gain greater knowledge of how to enhance leadership development in their states. We have provided two follow-up workshops to support the implementation of leadership development plans.
