Note: BBV testing should be recommended to all prisoners, including those already in prison.
Step 1: HIV (Ag + Ab p24) test
If the HIV test is negative
- Provide reassurance and harm-minimisation.
- Repeat risk assessment (and recommend test) after each risk event.
If the HIV test is positive (both/either test) – confirmed by confirmation test
Refer to a specialist service.
