This impact assessment sets out the potential effects of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Negotiations on the EU-Vietnam FTA were concluded in December 2015. As an EU-only agreement (that is without the need for ratification by EU member states), the agreement will not be provisionally applied and will instead enter fully into force once concluded at the EU level and ratified by Vietnam.

This agreement will:

  • promote bilateral trade and economic growth between the EU and Vietnam
  • eliminate most tariffs, increase market access, improve access to public procurement and services, and further reduce technical barriers to trade
