HM Prison and Probation Service Twitter Policy

The HMPPS twitter account (@hmpps) is managed by the HMPPS communications team. Followers of this account can expect tweets covering information about the work of Prison and Probation Service, including: news and press releases, events, campaigns, links to partner agencies and their work, retweets of other government departments and partner agencies. The HMPPS communications team is bound by the Civil Service Code, and will not engage on issues of party politics.

1. Replies and direct messages

We welcome comments and feedback and we will read all @ replies. Resource limitations mean that we will not be in a position to reply to all messages received. Sending a direct message or tagging using the @HMPPS handle will not be considered as contacting HMPPS for any official purpose. For official correspondence, you should use the contact details found on our official HMPPS website under ‘contact HMPPS’.

2. Following

We will follow partner organisations and individuals of relevance. Any accounts that are identified as malicious or spam will be un-followed. Any account that we follow does not suggest endorsement of any kind. We will not automatically follow an account that follows us.

3. Retweeting

Messages will be retweeted if we feel that content is useful and/or relevant to our followers.

4. Hashtags

We may use or refer to existing hashtags that are in common use for categorisation and ease of reference. It does not imply endorsement of any kind.

5. Availability

The @HMPPS account will be updated and monitored during office hours only, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
