Vulnerable prisoners

The Parole Board issued COVID-19 guidance on 20 March 2020 regarding policies on the automatic progression to an oral hearing of prisoners under the age of 18 or in a secure hospital/mental health unit where they cannot be released on the papers were paused during the coronavirus pandemic.

Whilst the policies are suspended, the underlying principles will still apply.

In order to support members to progress these cases, we have produced the attached information sheets.

The documents set out some of the additional points that should be taken into account, including steps that can be taken to ensure that a vulnerable prisoner is able to participate effectively in a video or telephone hearing.
