Details

The Digital and Technologies Jobs Plan sets out how government and employers will work together to open more routes into digital and technology jobs, especially for young people. It supports the Industrial Strategy commitment to develop Jobs Plans for priority growth sectors, and sets out how we will build the workforce the Digital and Technologies Sector Plan depends on.

Over the next decade, around 800,000 digital and technology roles are projected to need filling in sectors backed by the Industrial Strategy. Together with industry, our ambition is to open around 200,000 genuine entry-level jobs, including apprenticeships, over the same period. Government and employers commit to around 20,000 entry-level jobs a year through a single Skills Deal for employers.

The plan is set out in 4 parts:

  • Inspire: reaching one million young people with meaningful AI and technology learning through TechFirst by 2028

  • Open: bringing TechFirst, work experience, T Level industry placements, apprenticeships, undergraduate routes and entry-level jobs together into a single Skills Deal

  • Deliver: turning commitments into real opportunities, led locally with Mayoral Strategic Authorities, devolved governments and local partners, with dedicated support for small and medium-sized enterprises

  • Sustain: raising digital and AI skills across the workforce
