Rt Hon Angela Rayner MP, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, wrote to Lord Evans asking that, in the absence of an Independent Adviser on Ministers’ Interests, the Committee investigates allegations that the Prime Minister lobbied for a job for Carrie Johnson (then Carrie Symonds) in 2018.

Lord Evans replied clarifying that the Committee is not a regulator and does not have investigatory powers, but highlighted the importance of appointing an Independent Adviser on Ministers’ Interests, even if temporarily, while proposals for the role are developed.
