While electric vehicle (EV) technology, vehicles and infrastructure have developed rapidly in recent years, people still have questions about this new technology. This guidance provides information on EVs and EV charging infrastructure.

The transition to EVs is a crucial step towards achieving the UK’s net zero target. As announced by the Prime Minister on 20 September 2023, the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will be phased out by 2035. This proportionate approach will support manufacturers and families in making the switch to electric, providing flexibility while also helping grow the economy.

The Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate is the world’s most ambitious national-level decarbonisation framework of its kind and the largest carbon-saving measure across government.
