Detail

Section 60 of the Food Act 1984 provides for a local authority that maintains a market to make byelaws for:

  • market days and hours
  • prevention of obstruction
  • authority to use space
  • maintaining cleanliness
  • prevention of spread of fire
  • preservation of order
  • use of water taps
  • animals and livestock

As the legislation requires the local authority to consult the fire authority, draft byelaws should be accompanied by confirmation that this has been done.
