Commissioning letter to the Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group 2021/2022

Published 15 November 2021

Dear Mark,

Commissioning letter 2021/2022

Thank you for your commission summary letter of April 30 and for the BFEG’s contribution to Home Office policy development over the past 12 months.

We designed last year’s commission with continuity in mind. Therefore, I trust it does not come as a surprise that we would like BFEG to focus on the same themes in 2021/22. Noting that we have well-established sub-groups that are best placed to agree detailed plans for the year, those themes are:

1. The work of the Home Office Biometrics Programme

2. Home Office projects using advanced data processing techniques and/or large and complex datasets

3. Policy relating to the collection, use, retention and deletion of biometrics and digital forensics material

4. Policy relating to the digitisation of services in the border, immigration and citizenship system

In addition, as in previous years, we expect the Forensic Information Databases Strategy (FINDS) Board to request ad hoc advice on forensic information and database policy and projects.

I look forward to working with you again this year.

Your sincerely,

Alex Macdonald
