Commission for policy advice on the use of the forced swim test under ASPA – extension to deadline for reply to 27 March 2023

I am writing to thank you and to confirm the joint agreement to extend the deadline for the ASC advice on the forced swim test until 27 March 2023.

In response to the commission for policy advice on the use of the forced swim test, a subgroup of the ASC have been carrying out a review of forced swim test licences and collating evidence from stakeholders. Some stakeholder evidence was received after the initial deadline, and this late input, though very welcome, delayed the overall consideration of the evidence. This, in turn, delayed the production of the report which, unfortunately, was not sufficiently advanced to present to ASC members for their consideration and comment at their December plenary. As you know, all reports and advice are presented to the committee at plenary meetings for full discussion and approval ahead of presentation and publication on the ASC website.

Committee members will next meet on 27 March 2023 at which time they will be able to review and consider the advice on use of the forced swim test, a copy of that advice will be sent to you ahead of that meeting.

Yours sincerely

[Signed]

Professor David Main

Chair of the ASC
