The Animal Welfare Ethical Review Body (AWERB) subgroup of the Animals in Science Committee (ASC) held its 14th workshop for the AWERB Hub on 23 April 2026.

The aim of the event was to enable attendees to share and discuss:

• an update on the work of the ASC
• the top 5 operational challenges for AWERBs
• the value of lay and independent members in the delivery of effective AWERBs: perspectives from scientific, lay, and independent AWERB members

This report sets out the key points and findings from the workshop.
