This report brings together several strands of qualitative and quantitative research to review the revised Use of Force training curriculum during its implementation across the adult estate. It explores staff perceptions of the training and their experiences of using the new techniques as well as how it has been received by prisoners and the scale and nature of force since the revised training was introduced.
Although descriptive in nature, this research is important for gathering learning, good practice, and areas for change that will inform future development of the curriculum to improve Use of Force outcomes across adult prisons in England and Wales. It also promotes evidence-based practice for improving Use of Force in custodial settings.
