Tony Bates

Biography

Tony has been the UK Policy Adviser to the Governor and Head of the Governor’s office since September 2014. Prior to that he was Head of the Caribbean and Bermuda Section in Overseas Territories Directorate at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. Montserrat is Tony’s seventh overseas tour of duty and has previously served in Pakistan, New Zealand, Romania, Germany, the Cayman Islands and Switzerland. He was made a Member of the Royal Victorian Order by Her Majesty The Queen in 1994. In addition to specialising on Overseas Territories issues, his work has included British nationality and passport issues, disaster management, conventional arms control issues and consular assistance.

Tony is married with two adult daughters. His interests include photography, running, scuba diving, walking and gardening.
