Tim Robinson

Biography

Tim was appointed Lead Non-Executive Director at the Home Office in February 2023.

Tim has followed an international career in the technology and science sectors, spanning engineering, commercial and corporate leadership.

He was most recently the Chairman of LGC and served as CEO between 2013 and 2021.

LGC is an international life sciences company with its HQ in London. Founded in 1842 as the Laboratory of the Government Chemist, LGC was privatised in 1996.

Tim started his career with a decade at IBM in the UK and Asia. He subsequently held senior executive positions in global technology companies including Thales (Paris) and Silicon Graphics/Cray Research.

Tim has served as a non-executive board member of the UK Government Department for International Development; a non-executive board member of UK Trade and Investment; a member of the association of Oxfam, serving on their audit committee; and a non-executive director of the Camelot Group.

He was awarded a CBE in the new year honours list 2020 for services to the government in digital technology.

The non-executive director team come from the private sector with experience of managing large or complex organisations and projects.

Non-executive directors provide advice and bring an external perspective to the department. They also provide support, guidance and challenge on the progress and implementation of operational business plans, recruitment and succession planning.
