Suzanne McCarthy

Biography

Suzanne McCarthy was appointed Immigration Services Commissioner in 2005. She’s held a number of senior public sector positions including Chief Executive, Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and Chief Executive, Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Before entering the public sector, Suzanne worked as a solicitor in private practice and was a lecturer in Law at the University of Manchester. She studied in both America and the UK, and was awarded an LL.M. from Cambridge University and an MSc from the University of East London.

Her current non-executive roles include:

  • Chairman, General Chiropractic Council
  • member of the Human Tissue Authority
  • member of the Board of the University of London (where she chairs the audit and risk assurance committee)
  • member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors UK and Ireland Regulatory Board
  • member of the Advisory Board of the London School of Economics’ Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation
  • Independent Appointed Person for the Greater London Authority.

She was previously a member of the General Medical Council, the Pension Regulator’s Determination Panel and Chairman, European Forum of Deposit Insurers.
